A: Ask Mayo Clinic nurses are here day and night, every day of the year. They can answer your health questions. They can help you decide what to do when you’re sick or injured. Call them anytime at 1-800-504-3451 and ask them for advice when you are worried and don't know exactly what to do.
Q: Is the nurse advice line private?
A: Yes, the nurse advice line is a confidential service. The nurses will not share information about your call with your doctor or anyone else.
Q: What if I need care now?
A: A fever, a sprained ankle or a stomach ache are not emergencies, but you still may need to see a doctor.
Call your care coordinator or clinic when you need urgent care. They will help you decide what to do next. Or, call the nurse advice line anytime at 1-800-504-3451.
Q: What if I have an emergency?
A: The symptoms listed below indicate emergencies. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you have any of these symptoms.
- Possible heart attack
- Bleeding that won’t stop
- Trouble breathing
- Poisoning
- Unconsciousness (“knocked out”)
Note: If you visit an emergency room, call your primary care clinic and care coordinator for follow-up care within two days.
