Be Fit™ Exercise Reward Program

SCHA is excited to offer a new program that rewards members for exercising. Beginning January 1st, 2009, SCHA members ages 18 years and older will be eligible for up to $20 off the cost of their monthly health club membership fees simply by exercising at least 8 days per month.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Join a participating health club. Click here to find a participating health club in your neighborhood. Is your local club not on the list? If not, call our Member Services for help nominating your health club for the Be Fit program (1-866-567-7242).
  2. Sign up for the Be Fit™ program . Fill out the Be Fit™ program enrollment form at your health club. Remember to bring your SCHA identification card with you!
  3. Exercise 8 days. The health club will keep track of how many days you exercise. If you go 8 days during the month, the club will take $20 off your monthly membership fee for that month.*

Staying physically active is important for your overall health. We know it is not easy to squeeze exercise into your already busy life. But you can do it, and we will reward you for your efforts.

Note: Member must be enrolled with SCHA and the health club during the month he/she exercises. The member must complete the Be Fit™ enrollment form at the health club prior to participating. A one month delay will exist in applying the $20 discount to the member’s health club account (i.e. January’s participation will be verified in February and the reward will be applied in early March).

Be Rewarded™ Program

SCHA offers incentives that are designed to help remind and encourage you to take care of your health. Find out how SCHA members can earn rewards by downloading a voucher from the list below. Read more about the Be Rewarded™ program by downloading our TakeCharge! Flyer (.pdf).

Lead Alert

If you have kids in your house, chances are good you also own some toys that contain lead. Millions of toys were recalled in the summer of 2007 because they were made with paint and other materials that contain lead. Some of the brands of toys containing lead include Mattel and Fischer-Price. If you have toys that were recalled, it is important to return them to the store or throw them away. Simply washing the toys will not get rid of the lead!

Lead can also be found in dust from some paints and from home remodeling projects. Soil can be contaminated with lead from old paint on the outside of homes, buildings, or fences. If your home or water system has lead pipes or the plumbing was installed before 1985, lead may be found in the water. Lead can also stick to the clothing of adults who work in jobs where lead is used. This includes painters, remodelers, and auto body shop workers.

Being exposed to lead can be very dangerous. Too much lead in a child’s blood can cause behavior problems in kids and make it hard for them to learn in school. It can also cause health problems like organ damage.

Kids who have high levels of lead in their bodies might not seem sick. The symptoms are not always obvious and it can take a long time for them to show. That is why it is important to be screened! This quick and simple blood test can be done by your child’s doctor or at your local public health department.

If your child is 1 or 2 years old and enrolled with South Country Health Alliance, you may be eligible for a $25 gift card for having your child tested for blood lead poisoning. Call SCHA’s Member Services line toll-free at 1-866-567-7242 for more information.

Are your toys lead-free? Go to http://www.kidsgrowth.com/resources or http://www.cpsc.gov to find out!
